Vedanta’s Congratulatory Offer to the Chief Minister
A Package of new initiatives

  • Mr. Anil Agarwal , Chairman of Vedanta group congratulates Hon`ble Chief minister for his historic victory for third consecutive term as Chief Minister.
  • Mr. Anil Agarwal promises Chief Minister to build a Burn and Trauma Care Centre at Bhubaneswar as an extention project of Vedanta Hospital and Medical College.
  • Mr. Agarwal requests the CM for additional allotment of Bauxite Mines as well as allotment of coal blocks for Vedanta’s advanced technology power plants
Mr Anil Agarwal, the Chairman Vedanta Resources Plc and its senior executives, called upon Mr Naveen Patnaik, the Hon’ble CM of Orissa on 6th June 2009 , and updated  him about the status of Vedanta’s ongoing projects in the state including the Alumina project at Lanjigarh, Smelter and Power projects at Jharsuguda and the University project at Puri.
Mr Agarwal invited the CM to inaugurate the Mid Day Meal Kitchen at Kalahandi which will feed 30000 school going children.
Vedanta’s recent package for Orissa includes the following initiatives.
The Group has plans to invest Rs 50,000 crores in the state of Orissa out of which Rs 25,000 crores has already been invested in it’s Refinery, Smelter and Power Plants. The balance Rs 25000 crore is to be invested in next 24 months. This is the largest single investment project of Orissa which will generate maximum employment opportunities for people of Orissa.
The Chairman also proposed to set up a metal park in association with Govt of Orissa at Jharsuguda.  This will encourage small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) to set up their units and will eventually generate a large number of employment in the area.
As requested by the CM , Vedanta is considering setting up a state of the art BURN & TRAUMA centre for the first time at Bhubaneswar as an extension project of  Vedanta Hospital and Medical College.
According to a survey conducted Kalahandi is the largest Malaria affected area of the country. A new initiative has been undertaken by Vedanta to eradicate malaria from Kalahandi in association with National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).
Vedanta has already initiated the Midday Meal Programme at Kalahandi which will feed 30000 school going children of the region. The Company has already signed an MOU with the Nandi Foundation and the district administration.
