The following projects have been implemented by VAL for the enhancement of educational standards of children in Lanjigarh.
Vedanta Bal Chetna Project (Anganwadi Centres)
Provision of educational facilities to children is central to VAL’S sustainable development initiatives. To this effect, the company has set up 400 Anganwadi centres in six blocks of Kalahandi district in association with the Government of Orissa. Five blocks of Rayagada witnessed the construction of 646 Anganwadi centres. These centres focus on pre-school activities of children between three and six years of age. Anganwadi workers are provided pre-school Activity Training and First Aid Training.

Presently, 38 Child Care Centres cater to 1250 children.

Looking Ahead
VAL is committed to the continuous advancement of educational standards within children in the villages surrounding Lanjigarh. A number of programmes have been developed to facilitate overall educational achievement.
Superior vision opens up the doors to the world and augments perspectives about
various issues. This is particularly applicable to young children and VAL has,
therefore, made plans to organize Eye Screening Camps for young students.
VAL’s Bal Chetna Project envisages the improvement in educational standards of
children by providing nutritious food, which would reduce anaemia, as well as
logistic support. VAL would carry forward the Bal Chetna Project in Rayagada
district and would provide mid-day meals and conduct health checks as a part of
the programme.
VAL would start the construction of a kitchen under the Mid-day meal scheme.
This initiative is aimed at providing nutritious food to children and arresting
school drop-out rates.
