Health is an inextricable part of existence. To foster better health and sanitation, VAL spearheaded some major health care projects, independent as well as collaborative.
Mobile Health Unit(MHU)
VAL has set up a MHU to bring about marked improvement in general health and well being of adjoining villages. Aimed at providing preventive treatment for minor ailments, the unit attends 1500 patients per month across 12 villages. Immediate check up and free diagnosis for the poor has reduced water-borne and skin diseases, especially among children. Periodic visits by the MHU have brought more than 180 people to the clinics.
Mega Health Camps
In a major initiative to promote health facilities for local communities, VAL, in collaboration with the District Administration, organised intensive health camps. Specialists from nearby hospitals were appointed, who suggested cures for disorder of heart, liver and lungs.
Specialized Camps (RCH)
VAL has strived to touch lives by sensitizing local communities about life impairing diseases. The firm partnered with the district administration and RCH society to arrange camps for malaria control and pulse polio. 1500 children were vaccinated in collaboration with local volunteers.
Cataract Operations
VAL organised cataract operations across various districts to promote better lives through better vision. 1220 patients underwent surgery by specialized doctors
Blood donation camp
The VAL team created history in Jharsuguda when 127 employees of VAL willingly donated blood to Red Cross Camp, which is the highest ever in the district.
Looking ahead
With a view to transform the health scenario of the neighbouring rural population, VAL intends arranging 12 health camps in future. This would enable identification of major health problems in the vicinity of the plant area.
VAL seeks to identify partners in the likes of Orissa State Aids Control Society (OSACS), and the Government of Orissa to jointly facilitate projects.
The firm aspires to provide assistance to Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) through Sterlite Foundation in order to reach out to malnourished children.
